How every service at Mongkut works
Regardless of which service you choose, the process follows the same structure. You enquire, we assess, we provide a written estimate, and we wait for your agreement before beginning. At each stage where scope might change, we stop and contact you. The watch is photographed on arrival and you receive condition notes when it is ready for collection.
The specific steps within each service vary by type and complexity, but the structure around those steps does not. That consistency matters — it means you are not relying on a different process each time, and we are not improvising.
Service 01
Dial & Hands Refinishing
Gentle attention to faded dials and tarnished hands, with re-luming carried out only where it suits the piece and your wishes. We discuss how far to take any cosmetic work so the watch keeps its honest character. A considerate option for older pieces you would prefer to preserve rather than modernise.

Process Steps
Initial inspection and photographic record of dial and hands condition.

Re-luming of indices or hands where agreed, using period-appropriate material.
Final inspection, comparison photographs, and return with condition notes.

Service 02
Chronograph Servicing
Cleaning, lubrication, and function testing for chronograph movements, including the pushers and sub-dials. We check each complication carefully and report on anything that needs further attention before proceeding. Well suited to sports watches that have seen regular use over the years.

Service 03
Curatorial Overhaul
A measured, full-service overhaul for collectible timepieces, handled one piece at a time with detailed condition notes and your approval at every stage. We aim to keep the watch authentic and wearable, never rushing the process. A fitting choice for pieces of lasting personal or collectible value.

Process Steps
Extended intake session — full external condition documented with photography.

Timing test, final inspection, and preparation of curatorial notes for the client.

Protocols that apply across all three services
Magnification & Precision Tools
All work is carried out under appropriate magnification using watchmaker-grade hand tools suited to the calibre.
Calibre-Specific Lubricants
We maintain a range of watchmaker lubricants and apply them to manufacturer specifications for each movement type.
Controlled Environment
The workshop is temperature and humidity controlled to protect movement components and ensure lubricant stability.
Secure Handling at All Times
Every piece is logged on arrival and kept in a locked area when not at the bench. No piece leaves the studio unrecorded.
Written Condition Records
Each client receives a summary of what was found and what was done. Parts and lubricants are listed by name.
Same-Day Client Contact
If anything unexpected turns up during the work, we contact the client the same day — no surprises at collection.
