I brought in a 1970s dress watch that had belonged to my father. The dial was faded and the hands had some oxidation. Somchai sat with me for about twenty minutes at intake, asking questions about how much I wanted to restore versus preserve. We agreed on cleaning the hands and leaving the dial as it was. The result was exactly what I had asked for — looked cared for, not new. The condition notes they provided were a nice detail.

Had a chronograph serviced here — a sports piece I use daily that had not been opened in about eight years. The timing was off and one pusher was stiff. The full service took around three weeks. They called me midway through to flag that the date mechanism was showing some wear and asked if I wanted that addressed at additional cost. I appreciated being asked rather than just finding a larger bill at the end. Rate is now well within normal range.

I travel to Bangkok about twice a year and dropped off a vintage piece for a curatorial overhaul on my last trip. The overhaul took around five weeks in total. The curatorial notes they prepared were comprehensive — movement condition on arrival, parts sourced, timing results. It is the kind of documentation that actually adds value to the piece. I will be bringing another one next visit.

I was honest with them that I did not know very much about watch servicing, and they were patient in explaining the process without being condescending. Brought in a small automatic that was losing about three minutes a day. It came back keeping very good time and the staff explained clearly what had been done. Communication throughout was straightforward.

Brought a chronograph for service. Turnaround was three and a half weeks, which was within what they told me. The work itself was solid — pushers are responsive and the rate is consistent now. My only note is that the reception area is modest, so if you are expecting a showroom environment this is not that. It is a working studio and they clearly focus on the work. That suits me fine.

I have used Mongkut three times over the past few years — once for dial refinishing on a piece I wear daily, once for a chronograph, and this last time for a full overhaul on a pocket watch I inherited. Each experience has been consistent: honest assessment, clear communication, work that matches what was agreed. The overhaul notes for the pocket watch were particularly good — worth keeping with the watch long-term.

1960s Dress Watch — Dial & Hands Refinishing
Completed: May 2026 · Duration: 10 days
Challenge
The watch had lived in a drawer for around fifteen years. The lacquer on the dial had crazed in one corner and the hands had oxidised to a brown-grey. The client wanted the piece wearable again without removing its age entirely.
Approach
We discussed conserving the crazing on the dial rather than replacing it — the client agreed. Hands were gently cleaned back to a warm silver without buffing them bright. Re-luming was not carried out as the existing lume was stable.
Outcome
Watch returned with original character intact, hands legible and clean. The crazing became less visually distracting once dust was removed from around it. Client noted it looked "like it had been kept, not refurbished."
1990s Sports Chronograph — Full Service
Completed: April 2026 · Duration: 24 days
Challenge
A well-worn daily-driver chronograph, last serviced about twelve years prior. The start/stop pusher had become sluggish and the thirty-minute counter was occasionally misfiring. Rate was inconsistent.
Approach
Full disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, and reassembly with fresh lubricants. The column wheel had slight wear — we flagged this at day five and the client agreed to a replacement. Part sourced from Japan within a week.
Outcome
Both pushers now responsive. Thirty-minute counter registering correctly. Post-service rate: +4 seconds per day across six positions. Client described it as "better than when I first bought it."
Collectible Automatic — Curatorial Overhaul
Completed: June 2026 · Duration: 38 days
Challenge
A piece with documented provenance, brought in by a collector who intended to sell it in the following year. The movement had not been opened in over twenty years. Previous service records were incomplete.
Approach
Extended intake session with full photographic record. Stage-by-stage approval throughout. No cosmetic work to case or dial. Replacement mainspring sourced to original specification. All stages documented in writing.
Outcome
Movement running within manufacturer specification. Curatorial notes prepared covering intake condition, work carried out, and parts used. Client noted the documentation "adds material value" to the piece for any future sale.
